Interior Design & Soft Furnishings

Decorating was the first career that Amanda trained for on leaving school and although having experienced other career choices eventually came back to her creative roots and became 'The Painted Lady', running a successful Painting & Decorating business for several years.  She also holds a Diploma in Interior Design and Professional Curtain Making and Soft Furnishings and latterly concentrated on making gorgeous curtains & soft furnishings for clients across North Yorkshire.

The School of Home & Garden is created in the image of Amanda's many interests and passions and desire to pass on knowledge and skills not otherwise readily available.

Art & Interior Design

Although born in St Andrews, Fiona has spent most of her life in North Yorkshire. She is a freelance artist and tutor based in Knaresborough and has a BA (Hons) degree in Art & Design. Fiona and her husband have ‘Handmade in Yorkshire Ltd’, a company which makes and fits handmade kitchens, bedrooms, furniture, etc., for which Fiona is the designer.

Throughout her career as an artist she has exhibited and sold her own artwork and taught calligraphy and painting & drawing to all ages.   Fiona's on-going commission work covers book illustration and portraits of people and animals in acrylic. When teaching, Fiona likes to concentrate on techniques so that the student learns real skills that they can develop and build upon.

She has exhibited and sold her artwork all over the UK and Europe, in galleries and gift shops including National Trust and English Heritage outlets.
